Council of the town of Barkmere

In 1997, I discovered the Lake by visiting my father-in-law who had a cottage in Green Bay. My life changed! My wife Maren Mehnert and I decided that one day, we would also have our little piece of paradise and that moment happened seven years ago when we bought my father-in-law’s cottage. From then on, I decided to get involved to protect this well kept secret in the Laurentians. First as Bay Captain, then as Secretary of the BLPA. Now, I have decided to put my experience and capabilities to the service of the municipality, as Mayor.

My interest for politics and public organizations dates from way back. At University of Montreal, I was Secretary General of the Federation of Student Associations (FAECUM). Then, with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, I have worked for Tommy Hilfiger Canada for more than 13 years as Vice-President Operations and Information Systems and member of the Board. I believe that I can offer a good experience from the public and private sectors to the citizens of Barkmere to serve their interests in our community.

I am particularly proud of the diversity, the energy and the quality of our candidates, true Bark Lake lovers. Together, we shall meet the challenges ahead for the well-being and future of Our Community, Our Lake.

Luc Trépanier, Mayor

We came to the lake in 1998, my wife Chantal and I, and were awed by its charm, its natural state, the tranquility, the restricted development and the access by water. My implication in the Barkmere community consisted of being a member of the CCU (Urbanism committee) and of the Committee on Roads of the BLPA. I have helped in the promotion of activities during the annual regattas and, for a few years now, stand as Commodore of the Sailing Club. Professionally, I am Chief Operating Officer of a company distributing pulp & paper worldwide of which I am one of the main shareholder. My love for the lake and its community has incited me to put my entrepreneurial skills in terms of management to the service of the municipality of Barkmere.

Laurent Barbé, Councillor

We all know that the real challenge for the next few years will be environment and its protection.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Geography, a Law Degree, a Masters in Urban management and, since 1989, I teach Environmental Law and Urbanism Law at the UQAM; it is thus part of my work and especially of my interests to analyse by-laws and regulations and their impact on the environment and to closely monitor all that pertains to the degradation of the environment.

This is why I want to help my community. Also, as a member of the «village core» of Barkmere since 1965, I want to be a member of this solid and enthusiastic team.
France Boucher, Councillor

Growing up, I spent every summer at the Lake and many of them working on the lake for Gordon Miller with the O’Shaughnessy brothers where I learned to build cottages, boathouses and docks. Having travelled all over the world, I know for a fact that there is no place on earth like Bark Lake. I spent 13 years in Europe in various executive management roles with a large US multinational corporation. For the last few years, I have been the Chief Financial Officer for several start-up companies. I have a MBA from IMD International and a B. Commerce from Queen’s University. I have been Vice President of the BLPA and on the executive for the past four years. The opportunity to run for Council will allow me to give back to the community which I cherish so much by being a member of a dynamic team dedicated to represent the collective desires of all Barkmere residents.

Jake Chadwick, Councillor

I have spent most of my life on large lakes in the Laurentians (Manitou and Seize-Iles) and have learnt the intricacies of lake-oriented communities and seen some good and some not so good changes. As a 14-year resident of Barkmere, I consider myself a newcomer, but I believe I have lived enough experiences on this lake to know what citizens want and do not want from our city council. My success as an I.T. architecture consultant is based on my communication skills and the ability to understand people’s needs and frustrations and to turn them into viable concrete solutions. I can listen to everyone’s opinions and provide equitable solutions that will serve the best interest of the community.

Jean Dubois, Councillor

I came to the Lake 30 years ago. My wife and I have two little boys and want to ensure that Barkmere stays in its current state so my children have the opportunity to feel the beauty and uniqueness of Barkmere as they grow older. Over the past decade, I have given back to the community with my involvement in the CCU and CCE and working groups of the BLPA when required. I am a Chartered Accountant. I earned a MBA from the University of Chicago. I am a founding partner of the largest independent investment banking firm in Canada with offices in NY and Boston. I work in an industry where ethics, honesty and integrity are key ingredients to success. These qualities will be essential in my potential new role.

Marc Fredette, Councillor

The Lloyd family has a long history at Barkmere. I feel that it is now my turn to give back some of the community goodwill I benefited from, growing up on the Lake, and contribute to Barkmere so that future generations may benefit from its rare and magical charms. My involvement in the past years has been to support the BLPA as a volunteer and organizer of many activities. I was also member of the BLPA’s Roads Working Group and have closely followed municipal issues such that I consider myself well-prepared for the job of Councillor. Professionally, I am a partner and member of the Montreal management team of a national law firm. As a corporate lawyer, I have learned much about harmonious governance of organizations and effectively dealing with commercial matters. I look forward to working with the other members of this team and am confident that together we will do an excellent job.
Stephen Lloyd, Councillor
